The Alabama Home Builders Self Insurers Fund (AHBSIF) was established in 1984 to provide eligible members of the Home Builders Association of Alabama a stable and affordable market for workers compensation coverage. Designed for builders and contractors who are subject to the revenue fluctuations in the homebuilding industry, the Fund offers participants the option of quarterly or monthly payments based on the payroll for the previous period. Residential and light commercial builders, subcontractors, suppliers, and other businesses affiliated with the construction industry benefit from Fund participation.

Fund participants receive an upfront 35% discount on competitive rates. And by managing a safe job site, the cost of workers comp coverage can be reduced further through experience rating and participation in dividends. Fund Safety Services Representatives can assist in establishing loss prevention programs.

Only members of the Home Builders Association of Alabama (HBAA) are eligible to apply for participation in the AHBSIF.

The AHBSIF is a non-profit, self-insurers trust established and existing under 25-5-8 and 9, Code of Alabama, 1975, as amended and the administrative rules promulgated by the Director of the Department of Labor (DOL), State of Alabama. Participating employers are bound by the provision of the Workers Compensation Act of Alabama, the rules and regulations of the DOL, by the policies, rules, by-laws, participation agreement and trust document adopted by the Trustees of AHBSIF.
